“What drew me to this scene was the contrast between the solid, almost heavy architecture and the openness of the sea in the distance. The red walls frame the horizon, creating a space that feels both enclosed and open at the same time. I remember being struck by the precision of the light. The shadows cut sharply across the ground, shaping the space as much as the walls themselves. On the horizon, a sailing race unfolds, the small boats appearing like delicate marks against the blue, introducing a quiet sense of movement.
Shooting on film made me slow down and really consider this balance. The intensity of the red, the softness of the blue, and the depth of the shadows all come together in a way that feels very material, almost tactile. There is no direct presence, but the image suggests a subtle connection between the built space and the distant activity. A still foreground facing a moving horizon, held together for a brief moment.”
