The Loggerhead Classic

The Flow Trip caught up with former WSL World Longboard Champion and founder of the Loggerhead Classic Justin Quintal to talk about what makes the event so special and why it's coined, "The best longboard contest in the world." 

Growing up in Jacksonville, I was constantly told we were from one of the most ass-backwards places in surfing — bad waves, no culture, no real community, nothing particularly special about it. I always saw and felt something completely different. I saw a vibrant community, a unique culture, fun waves, and a place with a tremendous amount to offer. 

Building the Loggerhead Classic into what it is today has been my way of showing people what I always knew was here — not only how talented our surfers are, but how special and talented this entire community is. I've tried to distill all of my competitive surf experiences into what I believe a great surf contest should look and feel like. 

Loggerhead gives us a platform to connect generations of longboarding. We get to celebrate the legends who influenced us, while giving them an opportunity to see the impact of what they created on the generations taht came after them. It connects those dots and makes surf culture, heritage, and community something tangible rather than just something we talk about.
